CONGRATULATIONS, YOU FOUND A SECRET PAGE!

Leonardo da Vinci (1452 – 1519)

was an Italian painter, inventor, engineer, mathematician and designer. He was interested in EVERYTHING.

Everything?

Da Vinci made hundreds of drawings of the human body and studied how things like our muscles and organs work. He made drawings of people, plants and animals. He designed things like bridges and towers. And he invented and built models of machines, some of which look like tanks, helicopters, parachutes, machine guns and even aeroplanes. Over 500 years ago!

He even invented a kind of backwards writing so that people couldn’t read his notes and diaries.

I’m a Scientist!

He called himself a scientist rather than an artist. But he still painted two of the most famous paintings ever. One of them is called The Last Supper and it’s painted on a wall. It shows a scene from the Bible where Jesus is having a final meal with all of his closest friends.

The other is a portrait of a woman, a picture called the Mona Lisa. It’s in the Louvre Art Gallery in France and it is the most visited painting in the world. People queue for hours to see it.

A Genius perhaps?

Da Vinci was a very clever man. Some people say that he was a genius and that he could do anything well. Here’s a video where someone has made working models of some of Leonardo’s inventions:

Who would be at a modern Last Supper?

Your Task

Imagine that you are having a special party and you can invite twelve guests. Who would you invite? Think about your favourite pop stars, or actors, or athletes, or even cartoon characters.

Use an internet search to find photos of the people you choose and add their heads to the picture. Or cut them out of magazines (with permission of course). Or you could use photos of your family and best friends. Or your pets.

Sketch out your own Last Supper party picture and add the pictures to make a collage. Or your could print out the pdf above to get your sketch on which to stick the various pictures.

Why not also have a go at making your own collage version of the Mona Lisa?
